After two straight heartbreaking second-place finishes in a row (Quartz Hill Shootout and Huntington Beach Bash), the Newhall U12 Boys team, coached by Ola Ostlund and Joe Franco, took first place honors at the Santa Barbara Splash, June 5-6, to end their tournament season. Newhall went 2-0-1 in pool play, defeating Palisades and Santa Barbara and tying Agoura Westlake. Newhall won the championship game, 2-1 over Diamond Bar, which came into the finals 3-0, outscoring its opponents 22-2. The game was 1-1 late into the third when Newhall headed in the game winner and held off Diamond Bar's attempts to tie. It was a fitting end for a group of hardworking boys who went 1-7-1 in their first three tournaments, then turned things around winning the Oxnard Copa Cabana Beach Sand Soccer Tournament and then went 9-2-1 over their final three tournaments, ending with a championship in Santa Barbara. Great job boys!!!
