U12 Boys All-Stars Take Area Championship

The Valencia Region 678 Boys U12 All-Star team won the Area 10S Championship Sunday (Jan 31) with a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Saugus at Placerita. The team, head coached by Ola Ostlund and assistant Henrik Sten, advanced to the title game with a thrilling come-from-behind 4-3 win over Canyon Country in the semifinals to set up a rematch with Saugus, who had defeated Valencia 5-2 in pool play two weeks earlier. Saugus held a 1-0 lead late in the game, but Jared Redrow scored on a breakaway to tie the game and force overtime. Alex Trujillo hit a left-footed shot to the far post for the game winner in the first overtime period. The prestigious Area 10S Championship tournament consists of the best teams from Newhall-Valencia, Saugus, Canyon Country and Castaic. The Valencia All-Stars and Saugus will move on to play in the Sectional Championships, which includes teams from Baskersfield to Lompoc, Lancaster, Ventura, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley and anywhere in between, March 6-7, in Bakersfield.
